Nothing fantastic, nothing revolutionary. Subject matter? A canid. Background? That famous white expanse. But I was sick of setting my bar too high and so drawing nothing. It's been months...I'll do what my gut tells me to do, and it told me to finally draw that palomino wolf avatar thingy that I'd been meaning to do.
Referenced quite a few photos; the head is largely based on the Ethiopian wolf, not the gray wolf. I chose it because...it's not just a wolf with palomino coloration I wanted. The palomino wolf also had to evoke the palomino mule, and so there's some extra facial markings and big ears (which the Ethiopian wolf certainly has). *Fantastic*. Various sorts of gray wolves (including the Arabian wolf and the Asian wolf) and some red wolves played their part too.
Heh. I pay close attention to that tightly allied group of species in Canis - the gray wolf, the red wolf, the coyote, and the Ethiopian wolf. Fascinating and beautiful animals, the latter, though so highly endangered that I don't know how long they'll be around.
Yay! Great to see artwork from you. =3
This is very nice. I really love the linework. The coloration IS really fun. X3 Tis a good illustration, background or no.
